le déluge

I woke up this morning, Sunday morning rain, really afternoon but so on, and wrote the following piece:

“Defintion Study”, James Bowden

I think it’s fun and quite like it, and it reminds me of some of the stuff Matthew has shared with me in style. Athena said it might be her favorite thing of mine she’s read to date. That made me feel awfully good.

And then spawned off of the above poem, but filled out a few days later:

“And Then God Said, Let There Be Rain”, James Bowden

I am beginning to feel a bit ashamed at how many rain poems I have written, how strong an association it appears to hold in my brain, and so on. Oh well. This reminds me, the way Dermot says “so on” in part of this song, “All My Friends” is lovely and reminds me of this girl I met years ago named Sowon, pronounced, well, like that, sorta. I’ve been meaning to send it to her and tell her. Sharing is most definitely one of my strongest love languages. The video linked is part of Dermot’s Lost In The Soft Light sessions, and this song is where that phrase comes from, as in lost in the soft light, and so on, and so all of this is tied together, and so on. One of my favorite vibe songs he has created. Partly, the smell of rain and streelight thrown and now we have come full circle. Enough of me for the moment, though.

“A Small & Important Thing”, Padraig Regan
No link here, but a nice poem, which reminds me in title of the next, which I really love.

“The Thing”, Ellen Bass

“Enough Music”, Dorianne Laux

Liltingly. This reminds me of a poem we read in poetry class, next up:

“What Saves Us”, Bruce Weigl

A few various lines:

If he won’t caress me–
what use is this howling tenderness?
, Andal.

And my mistake was dragging love out of its cave into the open air, making my breast an open church for all lovers., Nizar Qabbani.

“What Will You Miss About The Earth”, Megan Fernandes

You can find this short poem about halfway down the page, or just ctrl-f. I like this, this tone really. Anyhow, reminds me how Jenny showed me/us? some of Fernandes’ stuff, though I can’t remember what anymore.

“Parachutes, My Love, Could Carry Us Higher”, Barbara Guest

I particularly like the first four lines, how kind.

“Midnight, Talking About Our Exes”, Ada Limon

I am often surprised by how spot-on other people are often able to pin a feeling I have or experience I thought was rather unique. Again, then you read.

“The Secret”, Jeffrey McDaniel

What a beautiful sentiment. I like bike. I went searching for this one today. I feel it in relation to the “Definition Study” poem above.

“The Lovers”, Victoria Chang

I don’t have a link, but it’s short, so here:
There is a wildfire / starving on top of a lake. / See how the water holds fire / but cannot end it? / We insist on love / when all we want is mercy.
The last sentence, yes yes yes.

I wrote a whole series of short poems following June Jordan’s poem on Bell’s Theorem today while calling Eve, but I think I’ll save those and disperse throughout the next few days or something.
