Haibun day
August 31st , 2022I’m kinda meh on this poem, but I like the last few lines: How selfhood begins with a walking away, / And love is proved in the letting go. Actually, I don’t even really like that last line. Just the second to last line then.
There was a cute painting with some newts? with hoods passing balls of light between them, Saddled with the infinite, I offer you this moment to slip between our fingers. This is from @hammuraber on instagram.
I was also entertained because I came across a comic to the effect of every time something bad happens to me, there is joy in that the comics are gonna be so good, and funny, because I frame my own mishaps like this to some extent these days.
“Summer Haibun”, Aimee Nezhukumatathil
What a good haiku at the end, the stickiness and such. I went and actually looked up what a haibun is supposed to be in form today. Anyhow, this reminded me of the next one, my favorite (and one of only maybe 5 haibuns I’ve ever read, but still).
“Immigrant Haibun”, Ocean Vuong
How good, and in part relatable. The last verse before the haiku is one of my favorites. If you must know anything, know that you were born because no one else was coming. And Maybe the body is the only question an answer can’t extinguish (I think not). And How something that lives only to fall can be nothing but sweet.
I read also a little letter from Rilke to a young girl, more or less saying that what is important is that we learn to love the difficult and deal with it and such. And I am trying, I think I am well versed in this in the personal realms of life and literature/poetry, but am trying to do this more for my academic/machine learning things.
