Parting part 2
August 18th, 2022“Vinegar and Oil”, Jane Hirshfield
How fragile we are, between the few good moments. I like that. The ending reminds me a little bit of Apollo, seems sorta ekphrastic but I don’t feel like I’ve enough context to really experience it.
Things are coming to a close here in Princeton. I’m going to continue working remotely, but I’ll no longer get to see everyone in person and that makes me sad. I’m going to especially miss Deniz a lot, and Geoffrey has been a lot of fun too. What a life. This is one of those good moments. We went out for dinner and drinks and it was a lot of fun, and I was thinking about the sweetnesses that were being passed between us all, especially Deniz and I, and wondering how much those are enabled just by looming ending. The love of form is a love of endings. To love endings more than people, than self, than things? I don’t quite know. I shall miss it.
